Job Summary

Reporting to the Country Manager, the Manager, Human Resources will be responsible for all aspects of Human Resources in the Lodges in Rwanda. Key areas of responsibility will be HR Administration, Compensation and Benefits, Recruitment, counselling Colleagues, in addition to coordinating and enhancing all Colleague relations, engagement and communication programs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Execution of the pre-opening Critical Path for Human Resources.

Set up a HR department from scratch with support of Global Human Resources.

Creating a recruitment and on-boarding plan to meet the business needs whilst delivering cost-effectiveness.

Work with Global HR and L&D to introduce a training plan to meet the needs of an opening property including senior team development and ongoing development for the Colleagues thereafter.

Embed the O&O Culture using Group Vision, Mission and Core Values.

Embed a culture of feedback and appraisals with robust procedures to ensure timely and quality driven reviews in line with the Company Performance Review process.

Conduct reviews of Rewards and Benefits in line with group and local needs, ensuring competitiveness in the market.

Responsible for Colleague engagement activities such as parties, recognition event, birthday celebrations etc.

Creation of policies in line with Company policy and updating of Employee Handbook.

Handling any employee relation issues including disciplinary & grievances including coaching and supporting Head of Department in resolving issues.

HR Metrics reporting including labor turnover, absence statistics and training delivered.

Ensure compliance with strict internal audit requirements.

HR and Learning & Development budget responsibility.

Work with Finance to ensure payroll runs smoothly including implementation of sound timesheet/leave reporting systems.

Ensure the HR system and personnel files are complete and up to date.

Conducts inspections of Colleague areas such as locker rooms, canteen, accommodation etc to ensure cleanliness and decent working/living conditions.

Ensure procedures for handling emergencies, health & safety issues are in place.

Manage the Colleague Engagement Survey and ensure action plans are completed to make improvements.

Responsible for ensuring effective communication to Colleagues on HR activities i.e. noticeboards, posters etc.

Consistently analyze overall Hotel service levels and needs using Market Metrix surveys, and Guest Incident Action forms.

Ensure colleague issues are brought to the attention of the General manager/Country Manager.

Maintains contact/visibility in the Lodges even when not in the property.


Skills, Experience & Educational Requirements

Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience within Human Resources, preferably within a hotel environment

Ability to travel to the lodges is essential

University/College degree or a formal education in Human Resources Management an asset

Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and compliance focused

Strong computer skills, proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), PowerPoint

Self-confident, creative and proactive, able to prioritize and make effective decisions

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal

Ability to build strong relationships, interact and influence others at all levels of the organization

Ability to gauge talent and a candidate’s potential fit within in the company culture an asset

Sound knowledge of Rwandan employment law is essential

Experience of carrying out training for Colleagues is an asset
