Job Summary:

Our client in the oil and gas industry seeks to hire a suitably qualified cultural Heritage specialist who will proactively drive and improve cultural performance through active management of the Project Management Consultant and EPC

Role and Responsibilities

  • Being part of a proactive team managing overall environmental and social performance with a key focus on cultural heritage issues. This includes;
  • providing relevant information to the stakeholders as required
  • managing construction contractor supervision and liaising with the Project Management Consultant (PMC) regarding cultural heritage performance, lessons learnt and any required improvements
  • The Contractor’s Cultural Heritage Implementation Plans are developed in a timely manner and encompass the cultural heritage commitments in the Contractor Control Plans (CCPs) and other relevant plans
  • The commitments in the Contractor’s Cultural Heritage Implementation Plans are implemented effectively
  • Undertaking formal audits, site inspections and spot checks related to cultural heritage in the oil and gas sites to ensure that cultural heritage requirements are implemented adequately during E&P activities.
  • Collaborating with relevant agencies and supporting country office regarding the management of cultural heritage issues in accordance with applicable legislation and best practice
  • Coordinating and communicating feedback from the stake holders regarding the cultural heritage performance of construction contractors (onshore), providing recommendations and follow-up as necessary
  • Ensuring that an effective change management process is implemented and monitored if any cultural heritage commitments require amendment
  • Supporting existing or introducing new project standards (policies, principles, processes, etc.) that govern cultural heritage performance
  • Ensuring that relevant documentation on cultural heritage performance, incidents and incident closure is collated and available to provide adequate evidence when necessary
  • Ensuring cultural heritage KPIs and parameters described for compliance monitoring are effectively monitored and performance improvements are introduced and followed up where necessary
  • Working with main stakeholders and the team to provide documentation to satisfy requests from lenders and governance bodies regarding the implementation of cultural heritage commitments
  • Providing capacity building on issues related to the management of cultural heritage within the organisation, and contractors to increase awareness, understanding and motivation as needed


Qualifications, Skills and Experience


  • Bachelors in cultural heritage, archaeology, anthropology or a comparable field
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant professional experience
  • Long-term experience of managing cultural heritage issues related to the oil and gas industry, preferably including multi-national pipeline projects
  • Experience in the supervision of construction contractors and understanding of the challenges related to the management of cultural heritage issues during linear construction
  • Experience communicating cultural heritage concerns in a structured and solution-oriented way
  • Proven skills in cultural heritage management and identifying/negotiating pragmatic solutions acceptable to stakeholders
  • Project management skills and recognition of timelines, budgets and project constraints
  • Ability to structure and prioritize work and cope with numerous pressing issues at the same time
  • Strong communication skills and ability to break down complex issues so they are understandable to non-specialists
  • Cultural awareness and social intelligence coupled with long-term experience with working in international environments
